What is Your Motivation to be Healthy?

What is Your Motivation to be Healthy?

At some point or another we have all said we need to get in the gym. We need to eat better. We need to make healthier decisions with our bodies. We may even start the journey. We may by a plethora of supplements, get a gym membership, and even get a new workout wardrobe. (Any excuse to go shopping if you’re like me!)

Often times, however, our motivation dwindles. Our results take longer than we would like. We forget to meal prep and fall off the wagon for a week. That week turns into seven. And then before we know it we are making another resolution and starting the whole process over again and again.

It doesn’t have to be that way!

Being healthy is a lifestyle. It’s not a fad that all the celebrities are doing so we should try it too. It’s not just trying to see the numbers on the scale more, or the numbers on the measuring tape change. It’s deciding that you want to take care of yourself for the long-term benefits. Not just the short term.

So what can you do to live a healthy lifestyle all the time?

Find Your Motivation:

Knowing the reason why you are doing something, and being excited about it, is the main reason people succeed. Sure you KNOW you’re supposed to be healthy, but why would you CHOOSE to be healthy?

This lifestyle is a choice.

While there are some people who save money just to save money, most of us save with a goal in mind. Emergency funds. Down payments on a large item like a house. Kids college funds. These are all motivators to live a healthy financial lifestyle.

The desire to have a great career may be the push college students need to lead an educated lifestyle.

All these motivators are basically the gas in the car. If the gas runs low, they have to stop and fill it back up.

Your health is the same way. Why do you want to live a healthy life? Are you too sluggish to follow behind your kids? Are you not fitting in your clothes the way you used too? Has your doctor told you you are at risk for certain conditions or diseases that may affect your overall quality of life? What is the gas that is fueling your car to at least think about living a healthy lifestyle on a long-term basis?

If you don’t take the time to determine what that fueling factor is, you lose the battle before you get started. If you don’t have a reason, that actually means something to you, you’ll never be motivated enough to workout when you don’t feel like it. You won’t have the discipline to drink that smoothie even though you really want a slice of pizza and three donuts.

So what is your motivation? What’s your fuel source?
